Offline AI
An offline alternative to ChatGPT
ChatGPT needs a connection: every question goes to OpenAI's servers. Twoody runs a language model on your computer, Mac, Windows or Linux — it keeps answering with Wi-Fi off, and your questions are answered there, not on a server.
Can ChatGPT work offline?
No. ChatGPT, its Mac app included, sends each question to OpenAI's servers and needs a connection. To use AI without internet, the model has to run on your own computer: that is what a local LLM is.
How Twoody works offline
When you set Twoody up, it downloads once a model sized for your computer, 2.8 or 5.8 GB. From then on, conversations, documents and voice messages are handled on the computer: turn Wi-Fi off and it keeps answering. Only web search, off by default, and the conversations you keep on your optional account need the internet.
Private, too
What never goes out cannot leak: without an account, or in a private conversation, your conversations and documents stay on your computer. The few things that do go out — the update check, the model downloads, diagnostics without content during the beta (which can be turned off), web search if you turn it on, the conversations you keep on your optional account, encrypted end to end — are listed, with how to check them.
Where it helps
- On a plane or a train.
- On a closed or monitored network.
- With confidential files: clients, patients, contracts.
- Wherever the connection is poor.
What to expect
A model that runs on a personal computer is smaller than ChatGPT's: excellent for writing, summarizing and questions about your documents, less so for the hardest reasoning. Offline, it knows nothing that happened after its training.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an offline version of ChatGPT?
No: ChatGPT always runs on OpenAI's servers. An offline alternative runs a model on your own computer, as Twoody does on a Mac or on a Windows or Linux PC.
Does Twoody really work without internet?
Yes, once its model is installed: turn Wi-Fi off and it keeps answering, documents included. Only web search and the conversations kept on your optional account need a connection.
Which computer do I need?
A Mac with macOS 13 or later, a PC with Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), or a PC with Linux (x86_64); an Apple Silicon Mac with 16 GB is comfortable. The calculator shows what each computer can run.
Twoody is in private beta.
On Mac, Windows and Linux, free, with no account and no subscription — and on iPhone and Android, with Twoody on your computer. Leave your email: we will write to you when Twoody opens to you.
